About CGL Systems
Formed in 1945 as a sheet metal work manufacturer for the construction industry and originally known as William Williams & Sons (Glasgow) Ltd, CGL Systems' product range has progressed/changed to suit the developing world but the foundation of the business continues to supply metal products to the construction industry. CGL Systems are the market leaders in supplying "Metal Rainscreen Systems" to the market and also "Membrane Lined Gutter Systems" for commercial and Industrial buildings.
CGL Systems are a systems specialist company and as such provide all aspects of the required service to warrant such a title. Our systems are tested, supported by a qualified team who can provide design assistance to suit the building needs, product details that are available in Autocad and PDF format and interface advice with other building components. CGL now occupy a state of the art 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in East Kilbride which is run with lean manufacturing as its key objective.
Metal Rainscreen Systems
CGL Systems identified ventilated façade cladding in 1990 as an early developing market and have been influential in its introduction to the UK cladding market. Specifiers and clients realised the benefits of “rainscreens” and now this type of construction has a substantial share of the high quality cladding business. The company’s experience in metalworking and contacts throughout the industry, plus the development of patented support grid systems, have combined to develop a detailed knowledge and enviable portfolio of completed projects throughout the UK and Ireland.
As in all markets, innovation continues, and CGL constantly develops new façade systems and has pioneered the use of different metals and finishes over recent years.
Membrane Lined Gutter Systems
In 1981, CGL Systems invented and patented membrane-lined gutters to meet a growing demand for insulated gutter products for commercial and industrial buildings. The demand was created by contractors who were using more sophisticated and better quality metal roof systems but were frustrated by the poor quality of traditional metal gutters.
The invention by CGL of lightweight metal composite gutters which had a factory-fitted weldable membrane revolutionised the gutter market and has resulted this product becoming an industry standard.
CGL continues to develop the basic concept and now produces large quantities of non-insulated membrane-lined gutters for “cold roof” applications and has also recently developed and patented a thermally-broken product which deals with the issue of heat loss at the roofing/gutter interface.
