Installer: Taylor Woodrow Construction Ltd
This housing
development features 16,000m2 of FF2 PVdF coil coated aluminium incorporated
into the CGL Aluminium Rainscreen System. The panels were supplied in
4 colours and the system was designed by CGL to accommodate the exceptionally
high wind loads caused by the exposed site position directly onto the
Leith seafront.
CGL
Aluminium Rainscreen System
GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
The system comprises FF2 aluminium cassette panels which are secret
fixed to the CS3 extruded aluminium hanging system. Being a rainscreen
system, this facade is ventilated and requires to be hung from a structural
internal wall which is air-impermeable, insulated, and acoustically
satisfactory. The cavity between the backing wall and rainscreen is
pressure equalised and thus inhibits the ingress of driven rain and
also allows any penetrating moisture to dry out naturally. All CGL systems
are independantly tested and are also compliant with the 'Standard for
Ventilated Facades' as produced by the Centre for Window and Cladding
Technology at Bath University
FF2 PVdF
COIL-COATED ALUMINIUM
Manufactured by Novelis, FF2 sheeting is a structurally- strong 5754H42
aluminium alloy in 2mm thickness which has equivalent performance to
the traditionally-used 3mm 3000 series alloys, which are typically post-coated.
FF2 is coil-coated and thus gives factory control over quality, thickness,
and consistency of colour of the PVdF finish, together with excellent
colour fastness, longevity, and warranties as to performance. CGL has
developed extensive expertise in fabricating cassettes , cappings, curved
details, and louvres from this material and takes full responsibility
for designing the structural attachment and stiffening of the panels.

CGL CS3
SUPPORT SYSTEM
Rainscreen support system technology under the CGL brand gives the installer
total flexibility to produce a flat, modular facade to exceptional tolerances.
Essentially a vertical rail system with wall brackets, the design detail
built into the extrusions and tension cam connectors is unequalled in
this market. All materials are aluminium, stainless steel, and neoprene
compression gaskets.
MAINTENANCE
Generally, painted aluminium facades should be washed down annually
with clean water, a neutral cleaning agent, and a soft applicator. This
regime will assist in achieving the expected longevity in excess of
30 years.
WARRANTY
CGL Systems offers warranty over system design and performance for varying
periods dependent on location and material used, covering replacement
of defective product.
