CGL is
the UK market leader in the design and manufacture of industrial and
commercial secret gutter systems. In 1980, the oil crisis precipitated
a demand for more thermally-efficient cladding systems and components
and CGL reacted by inventing and patenting insulated membrane-lined
gutter systems. These products have evolved over the years since 1980
to provide a sophisticated range of gutters which can meet specifier
and contractor needs structurally, hydraulically, thermally, and, more
recently, in the aspect of heat loss at the interface with varying roof
systems. Recently amended Building Regulations are driving greater product
improvements to deal with heat loss and CO2 emissions and CGL Systems
has reacted to these demands via continuous product improvement. The
systems features are -
- Proven
leak-free over 25 years experience
- In-house
structural, thermal, and hydraulic design to architects and contractors
- Standard
and thermally-broken options available
- System
warranty available
- Lined
with the best membrane - Sarnafil G410 12EL - 1.2mm thick
- Alternative
U-values available
- LPC
/FM approved insulant used as standard
- Gutters
can be used as walkways without damage
- Anticipated
life in excess of 35 years
GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
The systems are internal (or secret) gutters which form part of the
overall roof envelope and therefore require to be insulated to the same
value as the roof. Thus typically the gutters will be valley gutters
or eaves gutters hidden behind an eaves parapet wall. Regularly, however,
such secret gutters can be placed externally to the insulated envelope
of the building, but hidden by a feature fascia, and in this case CGL
can offer single-skin, uninsulated, membrane-lined gutters which share
the critical feature of being leak-free.
DESIGN
Although standard components and performance are defined below, CGL
Systems will undertake in-house design to amend structural, thermal,
hydraulic, or fire performance characteristics of CGL Membrane-Lined
Gutter Systems to meet project requirements.
COMPONENTS
- Galvanised
steel substrate to BS EN 10142; gauge selected to suit width and support
available. Typical upper metal skin is 1.2mm and soffit 0.6mm thick
- White
painted galvanized steel soffit available
- Insulant:
Standard 87mm thick polyisocyanurate giving 0.25 U-value; CFC and
HCFC free, LPC/FM approved.
- Membrane:
1.2mm thick Sarnafil G410 12EL bonded to upper metal skin; light grey
standard colour with dark grey as alternative.
- Sealants:
Gutter joints are formed by hot air welding of the pvc overlap to
the abutting gutter section. No sealants are required.
- Gutter
straps: Generally, support straps are not required as CGL gutter systems
are self-supporting on adjacent steelwork. In certain cases, straps
may be required in which case these are typically galvanized-after-made
50 x 6mm flat bar.
- Stop
ends: either insulated or plain, these are factory fitted by CGL
- Corners,
T-pieces, etc: these components are factory made by CGL
- Outlets,
sumps, etc: these components are stocked in standard sizes or made
as non-standard by CGL
WARRANTY
- CGL
Systems Limited offer warranties of alternative time periods based
upon building environment and design requirements. Minimum warranty
period is 10 years with extensions to 25 years possible by negotiation.
