“RainPulse” System Recognition from NBS

Throughout 2010 CGL Systems has been supplying "Rainpulse" to the market and in the September 2010 update from NBS and NBS Plus to its subscribers there was recognition that drainage systems have advanced and alternatives are in the market.

Under the "Rainwater Drainage Systems" section R10 a new specification clause 130 has been added which is "Pressure Assisted Rainwater Drainage System".

In the NBS R10 Guidance Note 9.2 it describes "Pressure Assisted Systems" as "These systems use intermittent full-bore flow. During heavy rainfall events, full-bore flow occurs in a series of relatively short bursts, rather than continuously. Specially designed outlets, with an outlet discharge diameter identical to that of the downpipe, must be used to create full bore flow in downpipes. When the water level in the gutter falls, the flow reverts to the gravity pattern, where the pipe contains mostly air. The pipework layout is usually simpler than in a fully syphonic system and long horizontal pipe runs inside the building are unnecessary. Each outlet in a gutter is independently connected to a downpipe so that the system is more forgiving of localised blockages. Adjacent outlets will run at full-bore flow more frequently to compensate, meaning that catastrophic overflow is less likely."

As a full-bore pipe takes rainwater away considerably quicker than a gravity pipe full of air, the system brings efficiency, cost savings and minimises risk to your building.

For a fully detailed specification click here or alternatively if you are a member of NBS Plus the system can be found there.

CGL Systems will be delighted to design "Rainpulse" our "Pressure Assisted Rainwater System" into your building. Please send Stuart McMillan a quick email by clicking here.

European Copper in Architecture Award

CGL Systems have received a prestigious award from the European Copper in Architecture Awards Competition. The Innovation prize was awarded for the craftsmanship that went into the Brass cladding on the House of Frasers store in Bristol. The chosen material was 3mm Tecu Brass which was supplied by KME. CGL Manufactured the rainscreen panels and sent the panels to Capisco who performed the specialist patination process on the manufactured products. The installation contractor for the project was Richardson Roofing

The European Copper in Architecture Award also recognises the creativity and care taken by all those involved in realising an artistic intent in a permanent form.

Extruclad Profile Range

CGL Systems are pleased to announce the launch of the Extruclad Profile range to its portfoilio. We at CGL believe there is an area of the market that is not currently available to clients and that a strong and sturdy extrusion to be used as an alternative to folded or roll formed products manufactured from sheets or coils. CGL Systems have launched a range of 5 different profiles that are manufactured from extruded aluminium with a nominal thickness of 2mm and a height of 200mm. They are available in up to 6lm lengths. The profile are shaped with curves and points to reflect our vision of the future of having a new and aesthetically pleasing different look to a building. The Extruclad range is supported with the CGL CS1 support system and the range operates as a ventilated façade like so many of CGL systems products.

Eurocentral Commercial Development, Glasgow

CGL is currently concluding the supply of 30,000m2 of its Aluminium Traypanel System for this project, the largest commercial office development in construction in the UK. Project architect, Keppie Design, worked closely with CGL and the cladding contractors, Lakesmere Limited and Grainger Building Services Limited, to design key façade interfaces and economic structural design and the project has attracted approval from all parties. CGL's supply partner, Novelis, supplied the 2mm thick Pvdf coil- coated aluminium sheeting which displays excellent flatness and perfect colour consistency. CGL also supplied all the membrane-lined internal gutters for the project and these were installed by Lakemere and Grainger.

Product Animations

CGL has created a DVD which displays animations of its cladding, gutter, and walling solutions. It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words and this clever, live depiction of how the systems work confirms that saying. The DVD is available to interested specifiers and clients by request and is also displayed in clip format on the company's website against each separate system.
