CGL's
economic alternative to true rainscreen cladding, the Traypanel System
operates as a 'hybrid' ventilated facade and has the following features:

- Available
in pre and post-coat aluminium, ACM, zinc and copper alloys
- Fully
tested and approved to CWCT test regime for ventilated facades
- Modular,
flat and flexible
- System
includes the adjustable extruded aluminium CS1 support grid
Case
Study
Project:
Residential Development, Platinum Point, Edinburgh
Installer: Grainger Building Services Ltd
2mm thick
Pvdf aluminium traypanels were utilised on this project and form an
attractive facade in conjunction with render and terracotta. Approximately
3000m2 were installed on the project during 2005 and early 2006.

Traypanel system
GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
The system comprises prepainted aluminium, copper, zinc and ACM trays
which are fixed through 30mm wide recessed horizontal joints to the
CGL CS1 extruded aluminium support system. As a hybrid rainscreen system,
the facade will ventilate the cavity and therefore requires to be hung
from a structural internal wall which is air-impermeable, insulated
and acoustically satisfactory. The cavity between the backing wall and
traypanels should be a minimum of 50mm wide and will inhibit the transfer
of penetrating water to the backing wall. Intruding water will void
the cavity through perforated base flashings and will dry naturally
due to circulating ventilation. All CGL systems are independently tested
and are compliant with the 'Standard for Ventilated Facades' as produced
by the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology.
TRAYPANEL
MATERIALS
Available
in varying lengths, traypanels are made in widths up to 1250mm in aluminium
and 800mm in copper and zinc. Gauges of the metals are:
- Aluminium
Pvdf precoat - 2mm
- Aluminium
post-coat - 3mm
- ACM
- 4mm
- Copper
and zinc - 1.5mm
CS1 SUPPORT
SYSTEM
Rainscreen support system technology under the CGL brand gives the installer
total flexibility to produce a flat, modular facade. Essentially a vertical
rail system with wall brackets, the design detail built into the extrusions
is unequalled in this market. All materials are aluminium and stainless
steel.
MAINTENANCE
Generally, painted aluminium facades should be washed down annually
with clean water, a neutral cleaning agent and a soft applicator. This
regime will assist in achieving the expected longevity in excess of
30 years. Copper and zinc are maintenance-free and will continue to
weather and patinate to achieve a life in excess of 60 years.
WARRANTY
CGL Systems offers warranty over system design and performance for varying
periods dependent on location and material used, covering replacement
of defective product.
